Air rifles have always been much preferred for both amateur shooting and sports. What types are available, which are the best and what are they used for? How to shoot and can you trust the Zarimex gun store?
What types of air rifles are there
According to the principle of shooting and air rifle's structure, this type of weapon is mainly divided into:
- Spring Powered - there is a piston and a coiled spring inside the chamber. The spring is compressed when you cock the gun. When you pull the trigger, you make the spring decompressed so it causes the piston to move forward. The piston movement makes the air compressed and the pellet is propelled out of the muzzle due to the force from pressurised air. ;
- Multi-compression - they create a lot of air pressure, and the shots are without recoil. They are not noisy, but require regular and precise maintenance;
- Gas Piston - works the same way as the spring-piston gun, but a gas ram gun has a gas-filled cylinder instead of a coiled spring. The air in the cylinder is already compressed and you apply more pressure to it when you cock the gun. The pressurised air is kept under tension until you release the trigger. When that happens, the pellet is discharged out of the barrel due to propellant force of pressurised air;
- PCP (Pre-Charge Pneumatics) - use high-pressurised air in the chamber as the propellant force to discharge the pellet. The pressurised air is compressed up to 3000-4000 psi by using scuba tanks or hand pumps. When the air reaches the desired pressure level, the gun is ready to use. For each of the types there are special bullets, differing in their caliber: mainly available and most preferred are the options 4.5 mm, 5.5 mm and 6.35 mm.
What are they used for
Air rifles and this type of weapon in general are used for small game hunting, for sport shooting or targeting from a certain distance. They are often preferred for amateur purposes such as shooting small animals: cats, dogs, rats, etc. Depending on the firing distance and the type of air rifle, it can break objects of glass or clay from a short distance and pierce thin surfaces.
How to shoot
You have several shooting positions: from a sitting position, from a lying position, from a standing position and from a knee. To make an accurate shot, no matter where you are, your body and muscles must be relaxed and you must feel comfortable during aiming and shooting. The stock must rest on the shoulder with its full area, one hand holding the rifle stock firmly and the other standing on the trigger. Aiming at the target is done carefully, and the shot is fired when the air is released.
