POLYGIEN® ODOR CONTROL TECHNOLOGY

How it works

Sweat is a natural response to any physical activity. The cooling and heat dispersing actions of up to 2.6 million    sweat glands in the average human body are essential to help us perform and keep us comfortable. Sweat is            natural and odorless but mixed with textiles it creates a moist and warm environment which is ideal for odor            causing bacteria to multiply and grow. It is the bad odor released by the bacteria which leads to the reduced              self confidence in 90% of us and which causes 30% of us to discard clothes prematurely.

Polygiene prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria and fungi at the source.

Polygiene® Odor Control Technology

Polygiene prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria and fungi at the source, permanently. To do this Polygiene uses low concentrations of silver salt (silver chloride), which has antimicrobial properties and is naturally present in water and soil, to safely eliminate the ability for bacteria and fungi to grow.

The treatment is applied at the finishing stages of textile production and field and lab tests show a high level of odor control beyond the usual lifespan of a garment. This lifespan odor control is possible as the technology is bound and permanently integrated in the fabric and will not wash out.

Polygiene silver salt technology is only active on the textiles itself and with a heritage in the healthcare sector Polygiene has applied its expertise and testing to ensure that there is no affect on the natural bacterial flora of the skin. Polygiene is not nanosilver.

The Body’s Sweat Zones

Sweat is a natural response to any physical activity. The cooling and heat dispersing actions of up to 2.6 million sweat glands (20% is located on your feet) in the average human body are essential to help us perform and keep us comfortable.

Sweat itself is natural and odorless, but mixed with textiles it creates a moist and warm environment and serve as nutrition, which is ideal for odor causing bacteria to multiply and grow. The bad odor is released as bacteria break down proteins and fatty acids present in sweat.

Sweat production will vary according to your level of activity, climate, gender and where you were born. However, not wanting to smell is a common view and by choosing Polygiene you won’t have to!

Environment

Polygiene is driven by the belief that the environment is at the center of sustainability. We want to limit the use of resources today to ensure the availability of resources for future generations.

To do this Polygiene scrutinizes the entire supply chain – from sourcing, production, application through to washing and disposal. Together with outdoor loving consumers and leading environmentally conscious brands we are focused on minimising the environmental footprint of all our activities.

Consumers are responsible for two-thirds (2/3) of the environmental footprint of a garment during its lifetime according to industry reports. The overuse of water, mostly due to excessive washing, plays an important role in calculating this footprint. Water shortage is an acute problem in major parts of the world, both in developed and developing countries.

A garment treated with Polygiene Odor Control Technology will stay odor free and can therefore be used several times before washing. The fabric also lasts longer without excessive washing and bacterial growth, and the treated product is not discarded prematurely due to odor. All of the above leads to minimized water usage.

TIPS ON HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLOTHES

WATER

HANG DRY  REPAIR

REUSE

To save water wash your garments only when really necessary and wash sustainably by ensuring you wash full loads at the lowest temperatures possible. Let nature freshen up your garments. Hang them out to dry or air to avoid excessive washing. If you have to wash a garment let it drip dry and avoid tumble drying and ironing. Take a sustainable approach. Repair what you can and look to buy higher quality and more durable clothing, footwear and gear as it should have a longer lifespan. Buy and sell clothes in second-hand and vintage shops. Rent, borrow or lend clothing that will be used rarely. Give unwanted clothes to charities rather than throwing them away.

      BLUESIGN®

Polygiene’s permanent textile treatment is bluesign® approved which means it meets rigorous independent environmental and product life cycle standards. It is also on the Oeko-tex list (I-IV) of independently tested and certified products.

The treatment is manufactured in the EU with minimal use of resources and conforms to strict environmental regulations. It is based on low concentrations of silver salt which is recovered from recycled silver in electronics waste. Polygiene is not nano-silver.
