   G-1000 is our cornerstone material. We use it in everything from backpacks to jackets and trousers. It’s a densely woven fabric made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton and, by using Greenland Wax, it’s adaptable to a whole variety of different climactic conditions. So with the right care, it’ll last for ages and join you on all kinds of adventures.

   As part of our commitment to using more recycled and organic materials, we now have Eco versions – made from recycled polyester and organic cotton – of all our G-1000 fabrics.

 

SINCE 1968

​  Since we launched G-1000 in 1968, we’ve developed a range of different versions. They’re all hardwearing, ventilating, wind-resistant and offer protection from UV rays. By adding Greenland Wax they become water-resistant too and even more wind-resistant and durable. But each of our five G-1000 versions has its own specific benefits.     Our original G-1000 material, created in 1968, has been a firm favourite with outdoor lovers for years. It’s strong but light, ventilating but resistant to unpredictable weather. It offers UV protection – essential for long days in nature – and it’s mosquito proof too, so great for lazy summer evenings by the campfire. And with Greenland Wax you can easily customise it to your adventure, whatever the weather.

G-1000 Air

     With G-1000 Air we’ve taken warm climate trekking up a notch. This extra lightweight material is even airier than G-1000 Lite, as it has a looser weave and it’s not waxed, allowing for much better airflow. Although this does mean it no longer offers resistance to wet and windy weather or mosquitos.

 

G-1000 Silent

Brushed for less rustling - perfect for hunting

     As the name suggests, this version of G-1000 is designed to make less noise when you’re moving around. The G-1000 is brushed, meaning it’s smooth and soft to the touch and quieter than other versions of G-1000, making it well suited to hunting. Aside from that, it offers the same tried and trusted properties of G-1000 Original and comes pre-waxed for wind- and water-resistance.

G-1000 Heavy Duty

Extra hardwearing for gruelling days in the outdoors

      G-1000 is tough, but G-1000 Heavy Duty goes a step further. Impregnated with Greenland Wax on both sides, it takes durability to a new level. This does mean it’s less ventilating than regular G-1000, so we use it for products where resilience, rather than airflow, is a priority. This translates to reinforcement materials – on places that are susceptible to extra hard wear – and for many of our bags and backpacks. Where smoothness is required, we use G-1000 Heavy Duty Eco S. It’s slightly lighter than the regular version, due to a finer weave, and it’s made from recycled polyester and organic cotton.

    G-1000 is a very study, rigid material but sometimes we want something lighter. Enter G-1000 Lite, a less stiff, more flexible version of the original. And to avoid reducing its strength we added rip-stop threads to boost its resistance to tears. It comes lightly waxed to offer some resistance to light winds and showers and, although it doesn’t safeguard against mosquitos, it still offers UV protection.

CARE & REPAIR

   Made from a mixture of beeswax and paraffin, Greenland Wax is a simple, nature-inspired solution to the challenges faced in the outdoors. Most of our G-1000 materials come pre-waxed, but it’s still a good idea to know how to re-apply and remove the wax to adapt your jacket to the conditions.
